UNDP Project «Assisting the Government of Uzbekistan in the formulation and implementation of ICT for development policy» (ICTP) in collaboration with Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) has published a textbook “Information Technologies”. This book is the first specialized textbook on information technologies (IT) in Uzbek language.

The textbook is a result of creative collaboration of ICTP Project and TUIT in the framework of development of modern learning materials and strengthening capacity building.

The goal of the book is assistance in deepening the knowledge in the area of modern IT, role of IT in organizations, modern networking technologies and methods of programming.

The book which consists of twelve chapters has covered three main fields of IT: information systems, computer networks and data structures.

The first part presents the notions of IT and information systems, their components, the role of information systems in organizations and in decision support.

The second part, devoted to the computer networks, reveal the basics of networking technologies, types of networks, seven layer OSI model and Internet technologies which includes creation of web pages, dynamic sites and other topics.

The third part is devoted to the data structures: linear, non-linear structures and also algorithms on sorting and searching.

The “Information Technologies” textbook differs with its modern design. The content is supported with visual elements like diagrams and pictures. The keywords are brought out in the margins makes it easier to orient in the text.

The book is intended both for students of universities/colleges and for independent learners. The textbook was published in 1000 copies and were distributed among the libraries of TUIT and its branches in the regions.

The textbook is recommended by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education for the students on bachelor’s degree of study in technical universities.

The authors of the book hope “Information technologies” textbook will become the basic textbook in Uzbek and will provide substantive contribution towards strengthening the knowledge in the sphere of ICTs. The goal of ICTP which is joint project of UNDP and the government of Uzbekistan is to support the development of ICTs in Uzbekistan and provide assistance in usage of ICTs for achieving sustainable development of Uzbekistan.
