On the way of discovering the world of Information Technologies

A training on basic computer skills is being delivered for kids in Orphanage #21 of Tashkent city from 26th of January to 13th of February.The aim of the training is to improve skills of the new generation youngsters in area of information communication technologies (ICT), to increase interest of youth in information technologies, as well as help those in orphanage to integrate the information technologies in their studies and their work in the future.

Organizer of this training is a joint Project between the Information and Communications Agency of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Programme project “Assisting the Government of Uzbekistan in the formulation and implementation of ICT for development policy” (ICTP).

This training, being delivered in a very interactive way by IT-Volunteers of the ICTP project and based on their own curriculum, is thoroughly adapted to interest and knowledge level of the training participants.  The training curriculum includes basics of working with Microsoft Windows, number of Microsoft Office applications: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, as well as basics of working on Internet.

The training participants, constituted by kids of 8 to 14, spend one-and-half hours 3 times a week attending this training in a new well-equipped computer lab of the Orphanage.

Being delivered for the second time in this Orphanage, this training comes as a logical continuation of the planned training series of IT Volunteers.  With 2 more similar trainings on the way for this Orphanage, these series are to be concluded by an advanced computer skills training (Photoshop, CorelDraw, programming basics, etc.) for the group of 12-15 kids shortlisted on the basis of tests and interviews.

This training is an important stage in bringing up the harmoniously developed generation, in the process of youth’s realization of its creative and intellectual capacity.
